Carol McNicoll was a prolific British studio potter, and one of a group of artists who graduated from the RCA in the 1970s and went on to shape a bold new aesthetic of ceramics.
Carol McNicoll initially working in fashion and film, before going on to study an MA in Ceramics at the Royal College of Art between 1970-73. It was here where she was one of a group of ground-breaking female ceramic artists who all graduated from the RCA at that time and went on to transform the British ceramics scene.
Carol McNicoll's work focused on functional, domestic vessels that were transformed into sculptural objects, typically with richly patterned surfaces. Her composite forms and sculptures use inventive slip-casting, modelling and moulding techniques and transfer decoration.
